Deeznuts, a staple of the US diet for decades, is being hailed as the first of its kind. 

The snack is the first to be made with corn and wheat, making it the first nut-free product to reach the shelves of grocery stores.

The new, nut-filled snacks will also be available in a variety of flavours including chocolate, honey and vanilla.

Deeznuts and other products have been around for decades but the nut flour and corn kernels have not been nut-based for decades.

A team of researchers led by Andrew Mancuso of the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, wanted to find a way to make it nut-proof. 

They developed a new nut-rich flour that had more protein, more omega-3 fats and less cholesterol than corn flour. 

When the scientists tested the new flour on mice, they found it to be a nutritionally superior product, and made more of its own nutrients than the corn-based version.

The researchers say this may be because the corn protein in the new nut flour contains a type of polyphenol called the polyphenolic acid. 

Polyphenols are compounds that act as “good guys” in our bodies, protecting us from harmful chemicals, and are found in fruits and vegetables. 

Mancusoro’s team, working with US scientists, says this could be a major advantage to DeezNut. 

“The new nut product, while not perfect, has a very low saturated fat content, high content of antioxidants and is nut-friendly,” said Mancoso. 

What’s more, the researchers have shown that the new version of the grain is much more stable than the grain from the 1980s. 

According to Mancaso, it is also more digestible. 

These qualities, combined with its unique texture and taste, are what will allow DeezNuts to be the next big thing in the nut-foods industry. 

It is not just a new way to eat, but a way of life for Deez Nut. 

People have been eating Deez Nuts for years and have been making and enjoying them for generations. 

 In the US, the number of Deez nut shops is growing. 

In 2015, more than 5 million Deeznuts were sold, with sales of about $100 million in 2016.
